HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR CONVERTIBLE KAYAK SUP PADDLE
SUP PADDLE ANATOMY
MATERIAL
The shaft and blade material is the most important factor to consider because it play a huge role in their weight and durability.
- CARBON FIBER:
Carbon fiber is the lightest material. It helps you paddle for longer distances before start feeling tired. Unfortunately, it comes with the highest price tag.
You should be careful because some brands market fiberglass + carbon fiber shafts or blades as full carbon ones in order to lower the price.
- FIBERGLASS:
Fiberglass is the second lightweight material that is less pricey offering a great value for the price.
Shafts made of fiberglass have a flex that makes them comfortable by being gentle on your body.
- NYLON PLASTIC:
Polyurethane or PU is a durable material that makes affordable SUP paddle blades.
Unfortunately, their tendency to flex makes them have a low power transfer from your body to the water.
- ALUMINUM:
Aluminum is an affordable material used in paddle shafts
One of the disadvantages of aluminum is that most of the time drowns when accidentally dropped in water because it’s heavy.
GRIP DESIGN

T-grip paddles offer a more secure grips while palm grips are more comfortable.
FLOATABILITY
The ability for a kayak SUP paddle to float is a very important feature because it helps you keep your investment from drowning when you accidentally drop it in water.
